Course Structure

The training program for Freight Forwarders is a mandatory training program to all Customs Agents jointly implemented by the East Africa Revenue Authorities (EARAs) and the national freight forwarding associations affiliated to the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA). The course is offered to individuals already practicing or intending to practice in the clearing and forwarding industry throughout the East African region.

Additionally, there are Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program to keep practitioners abreast with the changes within the industry. Click here for details (Link).

The course is intended to equip trainees with necessary skills, competencies and values desirable in Customs and freight forwarding in order to: 

  • Enable them to discharge their roles competently as Customs agent.
  • Entrench professionalism in the services offered by Freight Forwarders, especially in Customs clearing.
  • Enhance ethical conduct, good governance and integrity in the profession.
  • Facilitate trade.
Courses

The course is structured in 3 areas of learning each consisting of either one or several units. It consists of the following groupings:

  1. Basic Units of Learning

    Customer Care and Communication Skills, Numeracy Skills, Digital Literacy, Self-Management Skills, Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Practices,Ethics and Integrity.

  2. Core Units of Learning
    • Customs Module; – Customs Clearance of Goods, Classification of Goods, Customs Valuation, Rules of Origin and Customs Management Information Systems.
    • Freight ForwardingModule; Freight Forwarding Operations, Port Operations, Carriage of Goods
    • Warehousing and Transport Module; Warehousing Operations, Warehousing Storage, Industrial attachment)

The course is structured in 3 areas of learning each consisting of either one or several units. It consists of the following groupings:

  1. Basic Units of Learning

    Communication Skills, Numeracy Skills, Digital Literacy, Entrepreneurship Education and Employability Skills.

  2. Common Units of Learning

    Marketing Skills, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Ethics, Integrity & Corporate Governance, Health & Safety in Clearing and Forwarding.

  3. Core Units of Learning 

    Customs module;Customs Clearance of Cargo, Customs Valuation, Tariff Classification, Rules of Origin and Customs Management System.

    Freight Forwarding Module; International Freight Forwarding Operations, International Trade, International Mode of Transport, Insurance for Freight & Forwarding and Information Communication Technologies (ICT) in Forwarding

    Warehousing Module; Warehousing Administration, Warehousing Operations, Warehousing Design and Functionality, Warehousing Inventory Management and Technologies for Warehousing

    Logistics Module; Multimodal transport, Transport and Logistics, Containerization, Special cargo, Transportation and Logistics & the Law

    Practical Module; Industrial attachment.
